Back to School Ready in Under $10

The schools have made their lists, and now parents are checking them twice, trying to calculate exactly how much it's costs to prepare their kids for the first day of classes.

Tatum Giarraputo, who has 4 kids says, "I averaged, with school clothes and supplies, with four kids, it's about $1,000."

you heard her right, about a grand to set up her 4 children, but school officials say if your not cut out to shell out that much cash there are options.

Sherman ISD principal Joanne Miller says, "They can contact the school counselor, and if it's a desperate need we're here for them."

Howe teacher Kelley Tucker says, "Wait until maybe after school started and if they need anything extra then they can get those extras."

Bottom line, your children need the basics, and I found a way to get them for under $10 at Walmart.

My list includes: a 12 pack of colored pencils, a 10 pack of markers, 24 wooden pencils, a school box, and two pink erasers each for $1, 24 crayons and two glue sticks each for 30 cents, 2 dry erase markers for $1.50, a wooden ruler for 50 cents, scissors for 75 cents, 2 paper folders and a spiral notebook each for 25 cents. Grand total: $9.58, with tax.

Miller says, "If they see the essentials and choose those first, and send everything they can on that and then gradually every pay day add more to it that'll be okay."

Another good tip: wait to do your shopping until the tax free weekend. It starts on August 21st Texas.  In Oklahoma tax free weekend starts Friday, but it does not include school supplies.      Vanessa Bolano, KTEN News.
