Strong Storms Wipe Out Power & Topple Trees


Homes on the east side of Denison were slammed by Wednesday's storm. City crews and Oncore spent the day off Maurice Avenue picking up limbs and restoring power. KTEN's Katy Blakey has more. 

Residents were coming from all over town to check out the damage on Walker Street. One old tree completely uprooted, busting up the concrete driveway and barely missing the roof. The owner says he saw the whole thing from his front window and couldn't believe the winds were that powerful.

It was a similar scene up and down the street, where another tall tree barely missed from crashing into a home. Lightening caused power outages along Derby Street. Many of those residents say their appliances are ruined. The streets were filled with neighbors cleaning up and others getting a look at the damage.

"Two of my trees got split in half as well," said Addie Howell, a Denison resident. "Nothing like this though. This is bad. And then when the power went out that really scared me. We didn't know what to do. Was there going to be a tornado or a bad storm?"

Neighbors told KTEN they couldn't believe there were not any serious injuries considering all the damage they received. City crews will be out several more days to help folks clean up.
