America has been criticized for its unhealthy diet and new studies show Americans are not consuming enough vitamins.  But, If you are taking any supplements, you might want to make sure your body has the required amount of Vitamin D before you pop another pill because without it your body might not be absorbing the supplements you are taking.

Vitamin D is considered a cornerstone nutrient.  The supplement helps control the way the body works including thyroid, live and kidney function.  An overwhelming 80% of Americans are Vitamin D deficient and the deficiency can lead anxiety, depression, panic attacks and digestive disorders.  Even those who eat a healthy diet need Vitamin D; if they do not have enough Vitamin D their bodies, it will be unable to absorb all the healthy nutrients in food. 

There are a lot of ways to become Vitamin D deficient such as not eating enough greens or not spending enough time outdoors in the sunlight.   But beware, says Larry Mayo a local Neuropath, processed foods containing Vitamin D will not be absorbed in your body.  Milk is one example.  Due to the way milk is processed, it renders Vitamin D indigestible in your body so if you are looking for the vitamin you might want to look elsewhere.  

A good food source for the vitamin, leafy greens like spinach, kale and broccoli.  It can also be found in supplement form; the liquid supplement is the best.  It can be found at any local health food store. 

Other information: Current research also shows you need to spend at least 10 to 15 minutes outside sunscreen free.  It also says getting a small amount of UV rays can help protect against skin cancer, melanoma, dementia and Alzheimer's.
