  1. UNDER 21 COMPLIANCE CHECKS

The Durant Police Department recently conducted an Under 21 compliance check of local convenience and liquor stores.  Persons that were under 21 years of age were sent into these locations and attempted to purchase beer or liquor.  Out of 21 locations checked, only 1 sold liquor to under-aged persons.  A citation was issued to the clerk.  These checks are conducted regularly to ensure that clerks are checking identification of those wishing to purchase beer or alcohol.

  1. BURGLARY

On 050609 at approx. 0730 hours, Officer Tim McEachern was dispatched to 10 W. Main (Steger Lumber) in reference to a burglary.  The suspect had cut a chain link fence and entered the yard and kicked in the door, shattering the glass.  The suspect then took several pieces of copper wiring, tubing and fittings.  Cash was also taken from the office area.  Total loss is estimated at $645.

  1. Public Intoxication

On 050709 at 0550 hours, Officer Jason Hathcoat was dispatched to 200 block of E. Locust in reference to a male subject asking to go to jail because he was homeless and drunk.  Officer Hathcoat made contact with Derick Chafton who was laying on the curb.  He advised he had been kicked out of his residence and since he had nowhere else to go, he called the police on himself.  Mr. Chafton had a strong odor on him associated with an alcoholic beverage, his speech was slurred and had glassy red eyes.  He was unable to sit upright without officers help.  He was arrested and transported to the Bryan County Jail.
