Now that the holiday gifts have been given, consumers are feeling the pinch in their pocketbooks. Whether you've already used up your funds, or the bills are about to arrive wouldn't it be nice to make some of what you spent back? KTEN's Jhen Kordela has more on a local effort that's doing just that.
Jayme Maxwell, a mother of two, owns the Sherman/Denison Just Between Friends, a franchise dedicated to consignment sales -- preemie through pre-teen. It provides an outlet for local parents who are looking for ways both to pay holiday bills and de-clutter for the new year.
Registration is now open for a semi-annual event that allows other moms and dads to sell outgrown or unused children's items. Those items include gently-used clothing, toys and furniture, basically anything it takes to raise a child
"Parents right now are just so stressed about -- you know, it's still expensive to raise a child no matter what the economy's doing -- and so, this is a way to just stretch your dollar farther and just really help a lot of families who have lost jobs and things like that," says Maxwell. "They're looking for extra ways to make money, and this is a way to clean out your house, and make it -- you know, you don't have to do anything really hard -- but, just clean out your closet and make some money."
The sales are set for February 27th and March 1st at the Sherman Municipal Ballroom. Those who participate can take home anywhere from 65-to 75-percent of what they sell. Ticket sales and leftover items go to the North Texas Youth Connection.
The time between registration, which is now open, and the event allows for a chance to go through closets, toy boxes and drawers
