From news release:
National Night Out
October 7, 2008
Our goal is to promote police-community partnerships, heighten drug and crime prevention awareness, and strengthen neighborhood spirit. We hope to accomplish this by encouraging citizens to get out and meet their neighbors and work together to send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. Many of the neighborhood groups will be using block parties and cookouts to encourage participation.
National Night Out is typically scheduled for the first week of August, but the organization has recognized that the temperature in Texas at that time of the year is not favorable to outdoor activities and they have established a National Night Out Texas date which is scheduled for October 7, 2008 from 6 pm to 9 pm.
Individual neighborhoods can request that barricades block vehicle traffic on their street so that they can setup tables and chairs in a central area for a picnic or simply pull out the lawn chairs and watch the kids safely ride their bikes on the closed roadway. Whether it is a big bar-b-que or simply a meet and greet, each neighborhood in Sherman is invited to participate.
Please contact Sgt Dawsey at 903-892-7365 if you plan to participate or have questions.
For street barricades to close your street, contact the City Of Sherman Public Works Dept at 903-892-7035.
