Ada Residents Are Talking Trash About Polycarts

Updated: July 9, 2008 10:27 PM CDT

First it was Wapanucka residents stacking their trash bins in front of city hall in protest of losing their dumpsters for polycarts. Now, Ada residents are talking trash about polycarts and one of the main complaints is how much garbage the bin can hold. KTEN's Meredith Saldana reports.

The City of Ada much like Wapanucka is transitioning to the polycart system and some people have mixed feelings about it.

Ada city leaders say they're transitioning to polycarts for safety reasons so sanitation workers aren't exposed to hazardous materials like hypodermic needles that can easily stick through trash bags.

The city says with the polycart system employees will not have to directly handle the trash.

Many residents have mixed feelings about the upcoming change.

Ardmore resident, Cory Thomas has been using the polycart system for years, and says he prefers the polycarts to curb side trash bags.

Thomas says, "I like these better because you set a trash bag out there on the ground, guess what happens, dogs anything cats running through the neighborhood tear them apart and then your out there picking up trash."

Thomas did have one complaint though, that when his kids still lived in the house the polycart quickly filled and there wasn't enough room.

However, he did inform me that for an extra fee you can order additional bins.

The polycart system is discussed and additional questions may be answered on "Exploring Ada" on the city's cable channel 11.

City officials say the city can expect a smooth transition.
