Senator tours plant in Paris, visits with employees and community leaders

PARIS, Texas-U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, today toured the Campbell Soup Company plant in Paris and visited with employees and community members. He was joined by community leaders and local officials, including Paris Mayor Jesse James Freelen.

"As a major job provider for nearly 900 individuals in North Texas, Campbell Soup Company does more than just produce a delicious chicken noodle or cream of mushroom. Campbell's is making a positive difference for the local economy in Paris and the surrounding community," Sen. Cornyn said.

"It was a pleasure to visit with Campbell's employees and take a look at the work they're doing to make some of the world's leading food products. Campbell's knows the importance of having a highly-skilled workforce, and is providing its employees with the quality training they need to excel on the job.

"I will continue to do my part on the federal level to complement the innovation and initiatives that companies like Campbell's are taking to give Texas and the nation a strong, competitive edge."

Sen. Cornyn has been a strong advocate for the Community-Based Job Training Grant program, which aims to expand the capacity of community colleges to train workers in the skills required to succeed in high-growth, high-demand industries. Sen. Cornyn has worked to increase funding for this program to strengthen the role of community colleges, in partnership with the local employers, in helping the Texas workforce achieve its full potential.

Sen. Cornyn serves on the Armed Services, Judiciary and Budget Committees. In addition, he is Vice Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Ethics. He serves as the top Republican on the Judiciary Committee's Immigration, Border Security and Citizenship subcommittee and the Armed Services Committee's Airland subcommittee.
