Howe Police, CPS Investigate Child Drowning

Updated:

Texas Child Protective Services investigators and Howe Police are investigating the drowning Monday of a 17 month-old girl.

Police in the southern Grayson County town of Howe tell KTEN News that Madison Lashayn Shores drowned in a bathtub in her family's home Monday morning.

Police responded to a 911 call at a home in a trailer park community off North Collins Freeway in Howe.  When police arrived they say the mother was trying to perform CPR on the child. Emergency crews arrived, but pronounced the child dead at the scene.

Three other children were at home at the time - two older sisters and one older brother. The father was at work at the time.

Police Chief John Cherry says the investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed at this time. If charges were to be filed, the mother could face a charge of criminally negligent homicide.

Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
