The 2006 National midterm elections are one day away, and early voting in Oklahoma just wrapped up. A new poll released by "The Tulsa World Newspaper" said that education is the number one concern for Oklahomans, and immigration ranks second. KTEN's Kristi Branam was in Bryan County Monday, and asked voters their opinion on the poll. She has more on this story.
Oklahomans have a lot of races to decide when they go to the polls Tuesday. But, 25 percent of the likely voters responding to this new poll list education as their top concern.
Voters have 12 hours Tuesday, beginning at 7-am to decide the issues, and people they are going to vote for. Democratic Incumbent Brad Henry is running for another term as Governor, against Republican Ernest Istook. Voters will decide on the next Lieutenant Governor, Labor Commissioner, Auditor and Inspector, and Attorney General. Voters KTEN spoke with agree with the newly released poll, that education and immigration are the two most important issues this election.
Early Voter Richard Ezell said, "I Think that education is very important to the people of Oklahoma. My wife is a teacher, and I hear day to day the things that go on in the school system, and I think that we need to spend more money in the school systems."
Bruce Brewer, also an early voter added, "Immigration is a big topic for me now, it's real important with the way immigration is going now. People coming in, I think it's a very important reason, and education is too."
372 people voted early in Bryan County. Representatives from the election board say it has been an exceptional turnout.
