WE HAVE NEW INFORMATION TODAY ON THE ALLEGED HAZING INCIDENT AT DENISON HIGH SCHOOL.

KTEN NEWS HAS BEEN FOLLOWING THE CASE, AND TODAY...CHARGES WERE FILED WITH THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY.

IT HAS BEEN ALMOST FOUR WEEKS SINCE THE "BACK TO SCHOOL DANCE" HERE AT DENISON HIGH SCHOOL...WHERE EIGHT FRESHMAN FOOTBALL PLAYERS WERE ALLEGEDLY ATTACKED BY A GROUP OF OLDER STUDENTS.  TODAY, THE DENISON POLICE DEPARTMENT CONCLUDED THEIR INVESTIGATION.

THE SCHOOL DISTRICT CONDUCTED AN INVESTIGATION IMMEDIATELY AND SENT SEVEN SOPHOMORE BOYS TO A DISCIPLINARY ALTERNATIVE SCHOOL.  TUESDAY, THE POLICE DEPARTMENT DETERMINED THERE ARE ALSO CRIMINAL CONSEQUENCES.

WE'VE COMPLETED OUR INVESTIGATION AT THIS TIME AND WE'RE GOING TO SEND CASES OF FOUR INDIVIDUALS - TWO ADULTS AND 2 JUVENILES... THE MAXIMUM CHARGE FOR HAZING IS SIX MONTHS IN JAIL AND A 2-THOUSAND DOLLAR FINE.

"I DONT THINK IT'S VERY FAIR AT ALL (WHY) I THINK THEY SHOULD LET THE ACT FIT WHAT YOU DID AND I DONT FEEL THE PUNISHMENT IS EXTREME ENOUGH."

MEL CARUTH IS A CONCERNED PARENT, WHO'S KIDS ATTEND DENISON SCHOOLS.

"ANYBODY WHO'S A PARENT OF A STUDENT IN HIGH SCHOOL USED TO BE CONCERNED ABOUT THAT BECAUSE IT STARTS TO SET A PRECEDENT THAT THEY AREN'T GOING TO BE PROSECUTED, THEY'RE NOT GOING TO BE PUNISHED...THEY GET A SLAP ON THE WRIST AND THEY HAVE A TENDENCY TO LAUGH ABOUT IT."

TWO STUDENTS BEING CHARGED AS ADULTS WILL BE PROCESSED THROUGH THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE, WHILE THE JUVENILES' CASES WILL BE PASSED ON TO THE JUVENILE PROBATION DEPARTMENT, AND WILL LIKELY END UP ON THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S DESK AS WELL.
