After School Grant Program

A new after school program called ACE, Texas Afterschool Centers on Education, is being offered in the Sherman ISD.

Grades K through 8th will have the chance to enhance their learning abilities as well as work on social skills, and plan for future career goals.

The founder and writer of the grant for Sherman ISD, Cindy Lawrence says the program is also available for parents to work with their children as well who may not have the resources available to help improve their child's abilities.

"We want to start this program to reach those students who were in families that didn't have the resources to provide after school activities that are enriching to academics and future workforce readiness," Lawrence said.

The ACE program starts on Sept. 8th and will run from 3:45 in the afternoon until 6pm. The main schools involved will be Neblett, Piner, and Crutchfield.

Lawrence also wants students to stick around for the summer months where the program will be offered as well.

Since the program is funded by a grant, admission for students will be free.
